This is one of these type of water pumps that is powered by a solar panel, therefore has to have sunlight to work. The flow of water is driven by the amount of light that hits the solar panel. There is no battery pack in this system so it does not operate during the night!
Overall great product. It needed a few weeks to build up a good filtration process around the pump, and it should have to be cleaned every two weeks. Then in addition clean the pump with new clean water to get rid of any biological substances that have gathered up there. The Solariver pond pump has never ceased operating when there is sunlight and has managed to keep it’s promised power of a 3 ft foot strength. I have been keeping the pump under water at all times while operating.
Pros:
- Very easy to install.
- Suitable for smaller and medium sized ponds.
- Available as 12 watt, 20 watt or 35 watt units.
- Lots of reviews claiming their pump has been operating for years without issues.
Cons:
- Water flow is depending on the amount of sunlight.
- Does not work in the night.
- Can get clogged easily if it’s not cleaned frequently enough.
Why should I bother with solar-powered pond pump?
Solar water pumps are an environmentally-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional water pumps that run on electricity or fossil fuels. Because they use energy from the sun, they do not produce any greenhouse gases or other pollutants, and they can help reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Additionally, because they do not require a connection to the electrical grid, they can be installed and used in a variety of locations.
